UTM parameters and short links
Keep UTM tags on the destination URL; the short path stays clean for sharing.
UTM parameters are query tags marketers add to a destination so analytics tools can attribute traffic. They make URLs long - exactly when a short link helps.
Best practice with no-referer: put UTMs on the https destination you paste, then share the compact /r/{code}. Recipients see a short path; your analytics still receive the tagged landing URL after the redirect.
Example pattern
Destination: https://no-referer.com/pricing?utm_source=sms&utm_campaign=launch
Share: https://no-referer.com/r/spring-launch (alias optional)
A common scene
SMS and email both need the same landing page with different UTMs. Create two short links - or one per channel - each with its own tagged destination. Recipients still see a clean /r/ path.
Watch out for
- Putting UTMs only on the short path does nothing useful here - tags belong on the https destination.
- My URLs click tallies are not a substitute for Google Analytics UTM reports.
- Reuse the same short path only when the destination (including query string) should stay the same.
How it works on no-referer
We store the destination you submit - including query strings - and hop there cleanly. Click tallies in My URLs are separate from UTM reports in your analytics suite.
